Dungtse Central School initially commenced as a Middle Secondary School in 2009. The school was formally inaugurated by Her Royal Highness Ashi Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck on 18th December 2009. The school lies at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters above the sea level and at the distance of 38 kilometers away from Trashigang. In 2016, under the Central School System scheme of the Ministry of Education, two schools Dungtse Middle Secondary School and Phongmey Community Primary School were merged to form Dungtse Central School. Phongmey Community Primary School is one of the oldest schools in Phongmey Gewog. Her Royal Highness Ashi Kezang Wangmo Wangchuck formally inaugurated it in 1983. .
